This course is a quick step by step instructional guide to using Sigil and iBooks Author in order to produce ebooks in both the ePub format as well as the popular iBooks format.

This course is meant to be a quick start guide to creating eBooks with these two software. You will quickly learn how to create different chapters in your eBook, generate Table of Contents, insert Text and Images and later on Video and Audio. Also covered are how to create a Cover Page and adding both Internal and External Hyperlinks to your eBook.

Note that I am not covering the publishing aspects of eBooks. But perhaps this topic can be added in the future.

Ebooks demonstration on the iPad
In this lecture, we look at what how the iBooks app on an iPad will render the sample ePub file. Also, we at how the sample iBooks file will appear like.

SIGIL

Creating Chapters
In this lecture, we look at how to add chapters in Sigil and to add text in each chapter.

Sigil can be downloaded from http://code.google.com/p/sigil/

To add a chapter, select File - Add - Blank HTML File.
You can copy and paste text into the different chapters.

Headings and Table of Contents
In this lecture, we look at how to change the Headings of your text and to generate a table of contents.

Select the heading, and click on H1 to make it Heading 1 format.

To generate Table of Contents, select Tools - Table of Contents - Generate Table of Contents.

Inserting Images
In this lecture, we look at how to add and insert images using Sigil. We will also look at how to resize images using Sigil.

Click on the + icon to add your image files first.
Images can be inserted using Insert - File.

Inserting Audio
In this lecture, we look at how to insert audio files into Sigil.

Click on the + icon to add your audio files first.
Audio can be inserted using Insert - File.

In this lecture, we look at how to create a cover page in Sigil as well as how to add Metadata to our eBook.

Use Tools - Add Cover to add a cover page to your eBook.
Use Tools - Metadata Editor to add Metadata to your eBook.

Adding external hyperlinks
In this lecture, we look at how external hyperlinks can be inserted into our eBook.

Use Insert - Link to add external hyperlinks.

Adding internal hyperlinks
In this lecture, we look at how internal hyperlinks can be inserted into our eBook.

Use Insert - Link to add internal hyperlinks.
Use Insert - ID too add an ID to particular place in your eBook.

Reordering Chapters
In this lecture, we look at how to reorder chapters in Sigil. Just click and drag the chapters and then regenerate the Table of Contents.

Adding CSS
In this lecture, I will demonstrate how to add CSS code and link it to the various chapters of your eBook. I will demonstrate how to change the colour of the H1 tag and how to center the H1 tag.
